Live, and how live — Rapid KL city buses, MRT feeder buses and KTMB trains from api.data.gov.my/gtfs-realtime. The upstream republishes in batches roughly every 30 s and each position is already 25–80 s old when it arrives, so the “feed” figure above reports the median age of the positions on screen rather than how long ago the server was last contacted. Asking more often than every 20 s just earns a 429, so the page backs off when throttled. Between fixes a vehicle is carried forward along its reported heading and speed for up to 75 s and snaps back the moment a real fix lands; markers fade as their fix ages, and anything unheard from for 5 minutes is dropped. So the motion is continuous, but only the snap is measured — the glide between is a projection.
Scheduled — LRT, MRT, monorail and BRT trains are computed from gtfs-static headways and stop times for today's service day, then placed along the real track geometry. They show where a train should be, which is not where it is, and no amount of work here can change that: vehicle-position/prasarana?category=rapid-rail-kl returns 404, as does every other rail and trip-update endpoint on the API. Prasarana publishes live positions for its buses and none for its trains.
KTMB — intercity ETS, KTM Komuter and the diesel shuttles all appear, identified by set number (ETS310, SCS11, DMU11). Each train's trip_id joins to a named route, so its line is read from the timetable rather than guessed. The feed is nationwide, so trains far outside the valley are normal, and KTMB reports no heading. KTMB ships no shapes.txt, so the Komuter and ERL alignments are the real permanent way from OpenStreetMap, matched to each route by how closely the track follows that route's stations; where both Komuter lines share the same metals it is drawn once, in grey. The ERL has no published colour, so the violet is this map's own choice, unlike every other line here which uses its operator's.
Basemap — expressways, trunk and primary roads, the coastline, inland water and place names are © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed ODbL. Extracted once via Overpass, simplified to about 20 m and embedded, so the page still loads no tiles and makes no map requests at runtime.
Version — page built 21 Sep 2026; timetable and basemap data extracted 21 Sep 2026. If this page is behaving oddly, check this date first — browsers cache a local file aggressively and you may be looking at an older copy.
Known gaps — a few vehicles report null island coordinates and are dropped, as is anything outside Malaysia. Bus coverage thins to nothing outside roughly 06:00–23:30.
